For Transitioning Service Members

BufferSprings Training Paths

Foundations is the core of the BufferSprings program. All BufferSprings participants start with this phase and are introduced to the online Learning Management System (LMS) where they will complete courses that complement their hands-on SkillBridge experience. This training coupled with the Focused path ensures there are no gaps in foundational knowledge and highlights common areas of personal development that many find key to preparing for the culture shift of the civilian workforce.


Components of the BufferSprings Focused Path

Focused is BufferSprings' specialized training path aligning with the participant’s SkillBridge industry or career field. The bulk of the Focused experience incorporates hands-on job shadowing/internship and specialized projects with the employer host. Each training path is customized to the participant’s SkillBridge career goals to maximize their overall experience. Courses will be completed in the same LMS used during Foundations and may also include access to additional online programs. Some examples of Focused training paths include but are not limited to:

BufferSprings Transition Preparation

No matter the path a participant completes, every BufferSprings experience includes ongoing career support and transition preparation in our online community. Participants will prepare to formally transition into their chosen post-military role. In addition to the training, certifications, and experience earned during their BufferSprings tenure, participants receive customized resume advice and LinkedIn profile training.


Components include:

1-on-1 career preparation support

Group/virtual networking experiences

Individual mentorship through organizations

Informational Interview guidance

Position-specific resume feedback and support


Program Location:

This is a customized experience based on your goals and desired outcomes for SkillBridge and post-military employment. Most opportunities are remote/WFH and may also involve on-site work with your employer host, in a location aligned with your needs.


Program Duration:

8-24 weeks


Eligibility:

Open to all qualified transitioning active duty US service members, both officer and enlisted, of any rank and any branch.


Must have 180 days of active duty service remaining prior to date of separation and have obtained approval or be in the approval process from unit/command.


Note: As published in Department of Defense Instruction 1322.29 and as outlined in the U.S. Department of Labor's Fact Sheet #71 of January 2018, Servicemembers participating in a SkillBridge program are participating in a capstone training experience at the end of the military career and are NOT eligible for wages or other benefits from industry partners since the program is supported by the Department of Defense which will continue to cover the salaries and benefits of the participating members.
